Enterprise virtualization on a budget

In the coming posts I will be detailing the architecture that I designed for a recent work project that aimed to build a cost-effective virtualization environment to span two university colleges.  Here are the broad strokes:

  • Three LeftHand iSCSI SAN nodes using VSA with a total of 27TB of usable space
  • Two HP DL585’s with 4×4 procs, 128GB RAM, 16 NIC’s
  • Two redundant HP ProCurve 2910al switches
  • PowerVault MD1000 with 11.25TB for backup storage
